Spin Master Family Game Night

I've learned to appreciate all those moments I get to spend time with my family. Maybe more so with the restrictions of covid-19. This time was no exception. I gathered with my family to watch General Conference, eat (traditional waffles among other things), and play! We got to try out three new games from Spin Master: Headbanz, Grouch Couch, and Upwords.

So. Much. Fun!

Our favorite was Headbanz. I've played a home-made version of this game before and thought it would be old hat. But the slight change in rules brought a whole new dimension to the game I hadn't expected. Really, it was the timer that changed the pace and craziness of it all. We all wanted to go fast, but your brain panics and can slow down instead. We played several times and laughed hard at times when the yes or no questions that were asked didn't really have a yes or no answer. This game isn't just for kids! I loved that they included some sample questions when you felt stuck. There are actual headbands you can wear to hold the cards, but since Parley enjoyed using them for dress up, we just help the card to our forehead. I think it would have been hard to insert a new card during a timed event anyway.

My kids loved Grouch Couch the best. At first they were just playing their own version, but we read the rules together and they loved it that way too. You're trying to collect tokens that the couch will spit out at you. One option on your turn is after rolling the vacuum cleaner on the di, you can take tokens away from other players. Uh oh, this is where I thought our friendly game would take a turn for the worst. Could me children take without someone getting mad? Magically, yes! They played it several times!! There's not as much strategy involved with this one, but it's still fun in it's simplicit!

Upwords is a twist on the classic game of Scrabble. It's fun to build new words on top of old ones.

Overall, it was a great day. But then there were scotcheroos, so what could be bad about it?
